Moidam will be included in the UNESCO heritage list. Recently, ICO MOs have recommended the inclusion of Assamโs Moidam in the UNESCO heritage list. The full form of ICCO MOs is the International Council on Monuments and Sites. It is worth mentioning that the 46th session of the World Rohr Committee is being organized in New Delhi from July 21 to July 31. In this session, 27 nominations from all over the world will be examined, including 19 cultural sites, four natural sites, and two mixed sites.
It is recommended that Moidam be included in the UNESCO heritage list.
Let us now know that Moid Mas or Moi Dum or Maidamgaon represents the late medieval mound burial tradition of the Ahom community. After the 18th century, the Ahom rulers adopted the Hindu method of cremation and started burying the bones and ashes of the cremated remains in the Mohi Dam of Charai Deo. It is worth mentioning that out of the 386 Mohi Dams discovered so far, 90 royal tombs in Charai Deo of the Ahom mound burial tradition are well preserved and most representative. The Ahom Empire was established in the year 1228 in the Brahmaputra Valley of Assam, and it maintained its sovereignty for about 600 years. Chol Suk Fa was the founder of the 13th-century Ahom Empire.
The Ahoms ruled Assam for six centuries. Let us now know about ICCO MOS. It is a global NGO that is related to UNESCO. Its function is to promote the conservation, protection, use, and enhancement of monuments, buildings, complexes, and sites. It is an advisory body of the World Heritage Committee for the implementation of the World Heritage Convention of UNESCO. It was established in the year 1982. Let us tell you that every year, April 18 is celebrated as International Monuments and Sites Day or World Heritage Day.
For todayโs practice question, consider the following statements with reference to Moid Mas Moi Dam or Maidan. One It enshrines the mortal remains of the members of the Ahom dynasty. Two The Ahom kingdom was established in the Brahmaputra Valley of Assam in the year 1228.
