After the 18th century, the Ahom rulers adopted the Hindu method of cremation and started burying the bones and ashes of the cremated remains in the Mohi Dam of Charai Deo. It is worth mentioning that out of the 386 Mohi Dams discovered so far, 90 royal tombs in Charai Deo of the Ahom mound burial tradition are well preserved and most representative. The Ahom Empire was established in the year 1228 in the Brahmaputra Valley of Assam, and it maintained its sovereignty for about 600 years.
