A pivotal meeting was convened in Jodhpur, focusing on the immense potential of weddings in India and the unique opportunity they present for Rajasthan. The gathering also delved into the upcoming Rajasthan Domestic Travel Mart, slated to be held in Jaipur from 13 to 15 September. Gayatri Rathore, the Principal Secretary of the Tourism Department, underscored Rajasthan’s global recognition as a premier wedding destination.
Rajasthan Wedding Destination
Gaj Singh, a member of Jodhpur’s former royal family, articulated the potential of the ‘Wed in Rajasthan’ campaign to boost tourism and generate employment. As destination weddings gain popularity across India, the Prime Minister has encouraged domestic celebrations. This trend presents a significant economic opportunity for Rajasthan.
We should be ready for this, and we are getting a lot of support from the department. Its objective is that the Rajasthan Domestic Travel Board, which will be held in September, will host prominent tour operators and groups from all over the country who give tour bookings to Rajasthan. When they come, the people here also tell us about their products, what kind of Excel Tourism products, and what kind of heritage tourism properties they have on a B2B platform.
They sit together and talk, and Rajasthan gets bookings from that. Thousands of destination weddings are happening, lakhs of normal weddings, but the number of destination weddings has also increased a lot, and our local people, whether they are decorators, local caterers, local bands, musicians, or lighting people, get employment from this. So, from that point of view, we should promote Wed in Rajasthan a lot from the tourism department as well.
