Sudha Murty was nominated for the Rajya Sabha a year after she was awarded the Padma Bhushan Award for social service.
President Droupadi Murmu has nominated author and philanthropist Sudha Murty to the Rajya Sabha. The announcement was made on International Women’s Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Ms Murty and stated that her participation in the Rajya Sabha is a tremendous monument to the nation’s ‘Nari Shakti’.

The President of India chooses twelve members of the Upper House of Parliament based on their accomplishments in the social sciences, humanities, literature, and arts.
The creator of the massive IT company Infosys is Ms. Murty’s spouse, Narayana Murthy. She is the son-in-law of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. For her humanitarian activities this year, she was granted India’s third-highest civilian honour, the Padma Bhushan, after receiving the Padma Shri in 2006. Ms. Murty, who is well-known for her straightforwardness and simplicity, started as an engineer at TELCO (now Tata Motors). She presently serves as the Infosys Foundation’s chair. She writes extensively in Kannada and English, and her works have been translated into all the main Indian languages.
