The Day of Martyrdom: Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru’s Immortal Sacrifice for India’s Freedom

23 March 1931 was a very big and special day in the history of the Indian freedom struggle. On this day, the British government hanged Rajguru, Sukhdev and Bhagat Singh in Lahore Central Jail. These three were young revolutionaries who sacrificed their lives to free India from British rule. Thanks to such a hero.

History Bhagat Singh

28 September 1907 Bhagat Singh was born in Lyallpur, Punjab (now Faisalabad, Pakistan). He was deeply ingrained in patriotism from childhood. He joined the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) in 1923 and later led it. The HRA’s goal was to bring India out of British rule.

History Sukhdev

15 May 1907 Sukhdev was born in Ludhiana, Punjab. He, too, had a feeling of patriotism since childhood. In 1925, he joined the HRA and became a close associate.

History Rajguru

24 August 1908 Rajguru was born in Khanpur, Punjab (present-day Faridkot, Pakistan). He, too, was imbued with patriotism from childhood. In 1924, he joined the HRA and became a close associate of Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev.

On 23 March 1931, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were hanged in Lahore Central Jail. He was convicted in the Saunders murder and bomb-throwing cases in the Delhi Assembly.

The martyrdom of these three revolutionaries awakened patriotism throughout India. Their sacrifice strengthened the struggle to free India from British rule.
