A freight train hit the Kanchenjunga Express from behind on Monday in New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal.

At least five passengers died, and 30 passengers were injured.

Sources said that after the collision, at least two bogies of the Kanchenjunga Express derailed.

Additional SP of Darjeeling Police Abhishek Roy told ANI, "Five passengers died in the accident, 30 were injured.

The condition is critical. The incident occurred when a freight train hit the Kanchenjunga Express."

The accident took place about 11 km from New Jalpaiguri station in North Bengal.

Which is one of the largest and busiest stations of the Northeast Frontier Railway zone in eastern and northeastern India.

The train was coming from Agartala and was headed to Sealdah station in Kolkata.

The accident occurred around 8:30 am.

Rescue operations have begun and injured passengers are being rushed to hospital," a railway official posted at NJP said.
